Knowing Jesus well must trump trying harder to be like Him. The Kingdom walk and work has never been about trying harder
If only they'd waited just one more day...
Years after a trial or crisis, we are often still prisoners of guilt, usually false guilt. When Jesus invites us to find rest for our souls, He not only gives it, but He makes us worthy of receiving it. Finding our way to the place where we can hear Him saying "Let not your hearts be troubled," is accomplished simply by knowing Him, and then growing to know Him more.
May the loudest voices ringing in the ears of the hurting be the compassionate and humbly broken among us, in and outside of faith.
Perseverance in the face of trials and/or suffering means trusting God enough to ask Him to calm us in our storms, instead of merely asking Him to calm the current storms. God never delights in suffering, but He does delight in our perseverance, and He promises to produce fruit for His Kingdom that honors that perseverance.
In September, 2003, a terrible storm bore down on Washington, D.C. For the first time in the history of the Tomb of the Unknowns, soldiers guarding the burial site of these honored dead at Arlington National Cemetery were given permission to leave their posts for safety if Hurricane Isabel came. The guards response? ......................."Not a chance!"
Senior Writer and Workplace Chaplain Randy Kilgore is undergoing open-heart surgery, today, January 27, 2016. As close friends who consider the Kilgores part of our family, we are writing to you on their behalf to let you know of some urgent requests for prayers and financial support at this time.
Like everything else in this journey of faith, trying harder never works; shouting louder never works; getting angry never works. If we're too human; too rebellious; too broken to fix ourselves, then we're certainly too "all" of the above to fix Creation. But...
Love is the only thing that looks different.
...while God accepts us where we are in our journey---including waiting for us during rebellious periods as the father waited the return of the Prodigal Son in Scripture---we often find it hard to accept ourselves---or others---because we see the pieces aren't all fitting together smoothly yet.
